Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Unless the law is promulgated with objectives, purpose, and the details of enforcement man cannot be held responsible for any act that he may do even if it harms others; but if the law is found in the law books and the violation of such law could be pinpointed by interpreting that law man could be held responsible for the violation.

The Law points the transgression, and sin is the transgression of the law; it is missing the mark. God commanded Adam verbally not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and on the day he eats he will surely die.

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”. (Genesis 2:16-17)

Adam and Eve transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and they not only died spiritually but also were subject to physical death. Much later, God gave Ten Commandments through His servant Moses to the children of Israel to obey and they failed to keep them

There was certain period from the time Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden until Noah’s family and select livestock entered the Noah’s Ark. During this period there was no law and yet they were judged by their conscience.

God saw that no one did any good in the sight of the LORD; rather wickedness among people increased, and therefore, the LORD destroyed the world by deluge. No one could earn salvation by their good works, and even so, no one, now in this age, can earn salvation by their good works.

The Law was given for man to obey and to keep everyone, and everything in order, to see that nothing goes berserk. If everyone kept the law there would be no transgression of the law and there would have been perfect peace and discipline in the world. However, every man’s attitude, behavior and character differs from the other and therefore, there will be surely transgression of the Law.

God’s purpose of giving law for man to obey was primarily to see that human beings love one another just as they love themselves, and secondly to love God with all their soul, with all their mind, and with all their heart. If the law was kept perfectly man would never dance to the tunes of Satan.

The Law was given with good intention and the law was, and is good. However, because law has only provision to condemn a sinner, and thereby rendering him pay the penalty, the resolution to get away from that punishment is only the grace and that grace comes is afforded to man when he believes in the efficacy of the blood shed on the cross by Lord Jesus Christ in his stead.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23)

When a man believes in Lord Jesus Christ and accepts His Lordship over him the law of sin and death is passed away from him, and he is made free from condemnation to death. He receives the Spirit of life, otherwise known as, Holy Spirit.

The Law could not justify a sinner; rather law always punished the transgressor. Man cannot keep holy because of his fleshly desires always pull him away from being spiritually pure. Great men like David and others have realized this fact. Much more than this God Himself knew that the only way to redeem man from his sin and reconcile him to Himself, is to love him and send His only begotten Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to bear sin on Him and judge sin on the cross.

Lord Jesus came into this world in order to see that the provisions of the law are fulfilled in us. We, who have Him as our Lord, do not follow after the desires of the flesh but follow Him. Those who pursue the pleasures of the body do the things that are of flesh, but those who have the Holy Spirit in them do the things that please God.

To have evil thoughts in mind and do the things of evil is to invite spiritual death but on the contrary to have spiritual thoughts in mind and go the things that please God is to have life and peace. The mind that has evil thoughts is enmity to God.

Anyone who confesses his sins to God and accepts Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, and believe in heart that God raised him from the dead will receive salvation.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9)
