SPEAK NOT EVIL ONE OF ANOTHER
Leslie M. John
“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil” 1 Peter 3:12
Never will any evil escape being denounced and evil never begets good. Evil begets evil and the result is destruction of self and others.
Seventh king in Israel was Ahab who was the son of Omri who reigned over Israel in Samaria for twenty two years. Ahab did greater evil than that of any one of his predecessors in the sight of the Lord. As if the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD was not enough he took Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of Zidonians as his wife. Zidonians were the offspring of Sidon , son of Canaan .
“And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth” (Genesis 10:15 )
If we trace back to Canaan ’s lineage he was the son of Ham, who saw his father Noah’s nakedness when he was drunk. Ham went and told his brothers, who walked backwards without seeing the nakedness of their father, and covered him. When Noah came to senses from his intoxication he understood what Ham did to him and cursed him saying he will be servant of servants of his brothers (Cf. Genesis 9:19-25).
Ahab married and had very bad ties with the lineage of Cursed Canaan. Ahab’s wife Jezebel was wicked woman who brought idol worship into Israel . Not only Ahab and Jezebel worshipped Baal but they introduced Baal-worship in Israel. Jezebel was the architect of Baal-worship in Israel . Ahab reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal and thus Ahab provoked God of Israel to anger more than any one of his predecessors. (cf. 1 Kings 16:29-34)
Ahab was wicked more than any of his predecessors, and he married Jezebel, a wicked woman, of the lineage of Canaan , who was the son of Ham, a cursed son of Noah. Prophet Elijah prophesied that Ahab’s family after him will be rooted out completely but only after Ahab’s life because he repented in sackcloth.
The result was that Ahab died and was buried with his fathers. (cf. 1 Kings 21:27-29)
Later, at the instructions of Jehu three eunuchs threw Jezebel from out of the window and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses and he trode her under foot and the prophecy of Elijah was fulfilled.
“This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel” (cf. 2 Kings 9:33 -36)
“Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge” James 4:11
