WICKED AND THE RIGHTEOUS

by Leslie John

Leslie M. John

”The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one” (Matthew 13:38)

Speaking in parables Jesus taught His disciples and the multitudes that followed Him that in this world there is wickedness and wicked one, who is the devil, sows the seeds of the wickedness in the field. He compared field to the world, and said harvest is the end of the world, the reapers are angels, the good seed is the Son of man, and the tares are the children of wicked one. He said in the end of this world the tares, i.e. the wicked will be gathered and burned in the fire, while at the same time the children of good seed will be gathered to inherit the kingdom of God. (cf. Matthew 13:37-40)

Apostle John writes in his first epistle that whosoever is born of God does not sin, but keeps himself away from the wicked and the wickedness, and the devil does not touch him.

”We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not” (1 John 5:18)

Continuing on assuring God’s people David says in his Psalm 37 that wicked gnash their teeth against righteous and raw out their swords against them; but the LORD laughs at them. They plot evil against the LORD’s people but the LORD knows that their destruction is imminent.

The sword of the wicked and the bows they draw against the poor and needy will turn against themselves and hurt them. After God has destroyed them, we do not find them even though we diligently seek to find where they are. God wipes away those who device wickedness against us. Meek men, who seek God’s guidance, will have abundant peace of mind.

Do we need plenty of wealth and material to live in this world? A little that God has given to the righteous proves bountiful than the riches of many wicked. Enough are the blessings God gives with little, and the health to eat thereof, and sleep well, than plenty of riches, and colossal mansions to live in, with poor health and little or no sleep.

Just as God knows the end of the wicked, He knows the blessings that the righteous will reap in their lives. The LORD upholds the hand of the righteous one and blesses his work while the LORD breaks the arms of the wicked.

Speaking on protection that God grants to the children of God, the disciple of Jesus Christ, Peter quotes a verse from Psalmist and writes in his first epistle that the eyes of the Lord over the righteous, and His ears are open to the their prayers, but He is against those who do evil.

”For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil”. (1 Peter 3:12)

”The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry”. (Psalms 34:15)
The righteous do not get perturbed even in the oncoming famine, if it were really to come, nor would he be ashamed or fearful of the evil days, if they chance to come upon him, because he rests in the arms of the LORD, and the arms of the LORD are not short or weak.

The righteous will surely be satisfied with the comfort he receives from God all the time, even in distressful situations. It is so comforting for those, who believe in Lord Jesus Christ, to take refuge in the word of God. (Cf. Psalm 37:1-19)
